Rory's Net Campaign

Imagine saving a child's life with a small birthday gift.

One Canadian family decided that they could make a difference to the lives of many children.

They took the opportunity of the first birthday of their daughter Rory, which happens to fall on Africa Malaria Day, to collect donations from family and friends.

The money was donated to HealthBridge which, with Rory´s family, created Rory´s Net Campaign to purchase insecticide treated bed nets (ITNs) for those who need them most – women and children in Africa.

We hope that this generous gift, and the lives it saved, will inspire others to continue funding Rory´s Net Campaign.

How donations help

In Malawi, 18% of children do not live until their fifth birthday.

Sleeping under an insecticide treated bed net would reduce that number by 25%, but many families cannot afford to purchase one.

A good quality ITN costs about CAD $4.00. Each net will help see a child through the critical first five years of life.

The surviving child will be much healthier, having had less sickness during these critical years, therefore growing better, learning better, and putting less stress on the family´s resources.

To give nets to 100 children would cost only $400.

Donations directed to Rory's Net Campaign go to the Malaria Program of Ekwendeni CCAP Hospital in northern Malawi, which works towards having every mother and child sleeping under an ITN.
