India accounts for 1 in 5 of all deaths among children under age 5.

Almost all maternal and newborn deaths are preventable through skilled care before, during and after child birth. Pneumonia and diarrhoea are the largest killers after the newborn period of children under 5, and these deaths can be prevented with adequate treatment and proper health and sanitation behaviours.
