Lost Canadian Aid Workers

Following the unveiling of the Monument, the focus of activity switched to another important objective of the Monument Project - creating a permanent record of Canadian aid workers who have died in the course of their work overseas.

Leading up to the unveiling ceremony, groups involved in international development and humanitarian assistance were asked for names of friends and colleagues. People were asked to check their formal records, as well as their memories. Their initial response was used to identify over 70 individuals who have died since 1960.

A few of these individuals have been profiled in the catalogue entitled Monument to Canadian Aid Workers; thanks to their friends and family who took the time to share their memories with us. The permanent record is a living record and is a place to tell the stories of people who contributed so much and died through their commitment to creating a better world.
